Well, How you like them apples...

Rob Conery did his first check-in of the SubSonic source code to CodePlex on August 11th, 2006.  At that time, he was calling it ActionPack for ASP.Net in giving a nod of respect to Ruby On Rails and the action pack contained with in that project.

I "discovered" the project in October of 2006 and since that time developed several projects with it.  It truly is a magnificent platform that puts a whole mess of "fun" back into the development process.

I remember when Phil Haack got Jon Galloway to look at the first SubSonic (Then action pack) screen cast.  Jon's first impression was simply: Microsoft should ship SubSonic (formerly called ActionPack) with Atlas.

gasp

At that time, I was all aghast at the thought.  SubSonic is open source... what does Microsoft know about open source?  Sharing?  Community?  That was a year ago.  A whole mess of things can happen in a year!

Today, Rob announces his acceptance of the blue badge of honor

Now, what I want to know is where did Jon get his crystal ball from?  Because it's pretty eerie that a year ago he said something about MS shipping SubSonic.. but now it's not going to go with Atlas (which would have been cool in and of itself) but it's going to be the sugar on top of the new MVC framework for ASP.Net.  And that my friends.. is just WAY cool!

But I have a few questions for Rob..

  1. Are you going to stay in Kauai? (if so, and you are a blue badger living in Hawaii, I truly hate you.)
  2. Did you make a special provision in your contract that MS has to hire Eric Kemp as well since we all know he's the *REAL* brains behind SubSonic? :)

In all seriousness:

Congratulations are in order for Rob... Microsoft and Scott Guthrie have REALLY increased their collective brain pool with the latest addition of team members: Rob Conery, Phil Haack, Scott Hanselman... Who else?  Anyone I missed?
